Inspiration

Meadowood Resort, Napa Valley

This drink was inspired by a cocktail at the three Michelin star restaurant at the Meadowood Resort in Napa Valley. Tragically, however, this restaurant, as well as much of the resort, has burned to the ground in the historic 2020 California wild fires. I am sure it will be rebuilt, but as ode to amazing restaurant and the wonderful evening I had there, I have attempted to recreate one of their cocktails. Featuring fresh mandarin orange juice and the ever-intoxicating nectar of the gods - St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur - capped by an impressive layer of egg white foam, this drink is the perfect combination of elegantly boozy and refreshingly summery.

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Coupe Glass

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Froggy B Vodka
  • 1 1/2 oz fresh mandarin orange juice
  • 1/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/3 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
  • A few dashes orange flower water
  • 1 whole egg white
  • orange zest or peel for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add the first 5 ingredients. Shake vigorously until very cold. Strain out the ice.
  • Add the egg white to the cold shaker with the shaken ingredients. Do NOT put any ice in it. Shake vigorously for at least 50-60 seconds. Pour into a coupe glass and let sit for a few seconds to let the foam separate to the top.
  • Sprinkle orange zest over the foam and swirl into the egg white with a toothpick or chopstick. Serve immediately.
